Aberdeen are looking for their first new manager for five years following the shock departure of Jimmy Calderwood.
Calderwood bid a tearful farewell to Pittodrie on Sunday night, hours after masterminding the Dons' 2-1 victory over Hibernian on the final day of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League season.
That result saw Aberdeen snatch the SPL's last remaining Europa League spot, the second time Calderwood had led the club into Europe in three years. The 54-year-old refused to comment as he left Pittodrie for the final time but he appeared to have been crying.
The precise reasons behind the departure of Calderwood and assistants Jimmy Nicholl and Sandy Clark were unclear, although chairman Stewart Milne revealed the decision for club and manager to part company was made before Sunday's match.
Milne said: "It was really in the last week (that the decision was made). The club and Jimmy have made the decision that this is the right time to part company."
Milne denied Calderwood's failure to bring a trophy to Pittodrie was the reason behind his departure.
"We jointly believe this is the right time for the club and Jimmy to part company," he said.
"He has been here for five years and we believe this is the right time for the club to make a change and Jimmy believes the same."

The Jimmy's got a pretty nasty reward for getting Aberdeen back into Europe. How daft is it to remove a management team after a fairly decent crowd turned up to see the team qualifying for the Europa League. By Aberdeens standards the attendance was a couple of thousand more than average this season and it helped create a good atmosphere.Like many others we stayed behind at the end to cheer the team little knowing what was coming after the game.If the board want families to part with their hard earned cash during the recession which we are in to go and watch football they first have to have a solid management base and squad of players capable of performing to a high standard and secondly cash flow coming from the board to supplement any changes in players.I would doubt that any of the money that will come from the European adventure will go back to the new manager and its possible that Jimmy Calderwood will have a longer stay in Europe over at his Spanish villa. Willie Miller used to go on about how he and JC had been friends for years, well with friends like that who needs enemies. Also Stewart Milne wants to turn Pittodrie into flats and is keen to move out to Cove as he probably has land for future developments out there . A lot of Aberdeens support comes from Ellon ,Fraserburgh ,Peterhead and B of Don and what with plenty parking and easy access Pittodrie is well placed . There are quite a few supporters who would scunner at having to travel an extra three quarters of an hour through traffic to watch a football match unless the bye pass was ready as much of the traffic on Market St and Welly Rd would be heading towards the match and there could be very long queus. The current board are in it for themselves so therefore it is time for fresh faces such as Ian Wood to be asked on board
It certainly will be a new era without 4 first team players (scott severin, jamie smith, lee miller, and on loan player from man city vidal) and the way Jimmy calderwood has been treated has been pretty poor by the club, and the board of directors (they should be ashamed of themselves). The board have got no vision and no future. I laugh when stewart mckimmie says that aberdeen fc have to spend big to replace scott severin and jamie smith as they have to replace these players and also they are in europe again so they have to strengthen for europe campaign. under stuart milne this shall never happen (so go and do something different on a saturday afternoon now as stewart milne needs a wake up call as he is no longer wanted round the corridors at pittodrie) . If stewart milne has got any sense he would pack his bags and go and take the board and willie miller with him (more like windy miller) a useless article .
Gordon Strachan back to Pittodrie....
Is it really a new era for the Dons?? And will it improve?? I dont know. Ok, Calderwood & co have got the best record next to Ferguson & co, they did their best with what was available to them and we thank them for their efforts.
So now where do we go? Which manager will come to Aberdeen?
I am sure that they have one in mind, probably lots of talk about McGhee, Black, Mixu, Levin, Graham (George), maybe even Jordan, Joe, not the big busted tv star model, although they do say that the fantastic Man Utd player, Dwight York, said that she managed him very good.
It will take more than Milnes coins though, some BIG £ notes from Mr Trump and Sir Ian Wood wouldn't go a miss & by doing so it would only help their cause for the plans that they both have for the North East of Scotland.
I cannot give too much information away to Mr Trump with him being a property developer and all, but seemingly, Mr Milne was quoted in saying that he "would accept a 3 bedroomed semi in Mastrick at the moment for the club".
Anyone in Mastrick fancy running a football team??
Lets get Aberdeen back to where we belong, making the old firm challenge us for top spot, maybe i am just an old Fergie spoiled Red, but why not? A little bit of money and good management could put us there.
Whoever takes over, lets get right behing them. Good luck in Europe and the coming season.....STAND FREE!!!!!!!!
Am i reading these comments properly?????? JC has been proved to be tactically inept, he consistently plays tactics that not only do the fans not understand , neither it appears do the players. The cup results were not bad, they were awful. Losing to lower league opposition is no t acceptable for any team in the top 6, never mind just Aberdeen.
Its not a case of the fergie era, thats just trotted out by fans of the old firm or Dons who dont go the games. Here's a thought, go to the games and sit and watch the drivel that is on show at Pittodrie. £21 to watch what is essentially 1st division football.
We almost blew it against Hibs, defending so deep the defence was almost in the Merkland.
I for one am glad he is gone, but i do agree Milne and Miller have to go too. He was in charge of the team, but those two are running the club into the ground.
The players have no ambition, Lee Miller, a diver and a lazy *@x& who couldnt hit the net even if he tried. Our main striker, a joke.
Severin the slowest man in the SPL, gets man of the match against Hibs????what he hardly touche the ball.
The young kids never really got a chance under JC and the other two.
Its a new era now. Never mind a new stadium, lets get a team on the pitch and have something to cheer about, instead on defensive displays.
Get rid of the drink culture at Pittodrie and sort it out.
When the fans are appaulding 4th place like we've won the cup or league, its frankly a sad day. We are better than that or should be.
That said their still my team.
Stand Free............................
like many dons fans i was screaming for calderwood to get sacked after some awful results , but when you look at the money he had to spend he done a good job, mind you some of his players he brought in were bad, stewart milne has to go yes aberdeen will lose money but milne thinks he can run them as pub team he never put any real money in to the team he cant attract any serious investors to the club will donald trump put any money in i hope he does he obviously has a better brain than milne why cant aberdeen have a big name sponsor like WOOD GROUP,SHELL, etc even having 'TRUMP' on the shirts would look good ,as for the new stadium at cove great it will take me 15/20 minutes less drive drive from arbroath to get there GEORGE GRAHAM for manager ? ye right he will cost way to much for milne, get SIR IAN WOOD and DONALD TRUMP in now !
iv just read milnes comments saying it was time for calderwood and aberdeen to part company . what he should of said its time for stuart milne and aberdeen to part company
Being an expat Aberdonian, having left just as we won the Cup Winner's Cup, this 'boy' Milne, to me, is a complete wonker. Agreed with the other comments. Jee's! Calderwood's done more than 'feed the thousands' with a coupla fish & some loaves/rowies. Good grief, who the hell does Milne want? 'Mother Teresa' Ferguson? (to come back in a 'second coming'?) Milne, get a bl**dy grip, pal.
bad bad mistake aberdeen board take a long hard look at youself milne .weres all the promises you said you would do .aint seen one yet .good luck jimmy .if it was a fans vote you would still be here .
calderwood should o stayed stewart milne should go he,s tighter than scrooge thanks for the memories jc
I FOR 1 AM VERY SAD TO SEE THE JIMMYS GO! I THINK THEY HAVE DONE A VERY GOOD JOB GIVEN THE FUNDS THEY WERE GIVEN TO DEVELOPE THE TEAM WITH. MILNE SHOULD TAKE A GOOD LONG LOOK AT HIMSELF AND STEP DOWN AS CHAIRMAN. I DONT THINK ITS RIGHT FOR PEOPLE TO KNOCK WILLIE MILLER AS IT WAS HE WHO BROUGHT IN JIMMY TO START WITH.
LETS HOPE THIS IS NOT THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR OUR ONCE GREAT TEAM.
Calderwood and co done Aberdeen proud they gave us some bad results but over all they were the closet thing to Alex Ferguson we deserve and good luck in all they endevore the board have made their mistakes and yes if they fail this time then they should run with teir tail beetween their legs like the cowering dogs they are P.S put some of the new staduim sale funds into the team and buy some of the english relagateds teams better players and hope then European Football will help get them cause they cetainlly want away and no other team should want them Stewart Milne owes us that much A.F.C first for a change Houses Second. With the money he is to make with a beach development he could do that and give all the Aberdeen fans some much needed hope for the team they love and in doing so will have the fans flocking back...!!!
aye exactly . willie miller could not even run a harry ramsden fish shop. stuart milne is running aberdeen fc like a pub team , his boyhood dream was to have a football team and run it as a hobby and that is what he is basically doing to aberdeen fc. stuart milne would be better to put the club up for sale and sell it to donald trump who would make proper investment in to the football team. people should avoid buying any season tickets and see who he appoints as it shall be the same old story a new manager and no new funds . stuart milne just likes to spend his money on building materials, the sad guy that he is . The manager they appoint shall be sub standard a bit like there stadium and training facilities. stuart milne wont give aberdeen fc its own training facilities as he wont make any money from it . stuart milne just needs to redevelop pittodrie just do what he did 2 the @#$% donald stand just do that all the way round and stay at pittodrie, as i doubt people shall travel to cove 2 watch @#$%. the people of aberdeen should vote with there feet and boycot the club as we should protest and demand that stewart milne goes.

I think Aberdeen have made a mistake here....Calderwood does what was asked.....
Same old story the board will not back the manager with funds to retain
players and add quality players to the squad. We will be left with a poor
squad and a brand new stadium. Jimmy Calderwood has a win percentage second
only to Alex Ferguson yet he has paid for a couple of poor cup results.
The board has to get the next appointment right or they should go.
Stewart Milne is only at Aberdeen for what he can get out of it. When we are
in the new stadium and once pittodrie is developed into houses you won't
see him for dust.
