Wed 25 Jun, 07:45 AM

Steve Bruce feels he is making "significant progress" in his attempts to improve his Wigan Athletic squad. The Latics are in the market for a new striker after offloading Julius Aghahowa and allowing Marcus Bent to return to Charlton Athletic.

Reading forward Dave Kitson is the latest frontman to be linked with a move to the JJB Stadium, while Bruce is also keen on Birmingham midfielder Olivier Kapo.

Bruce has been assessing potential recruits and is optimistic that the Latics will soon be in a position to announce new signings.

"We are looking at several options and hope to start a few things soon," Bruce told the Wigan Evening Post.

"We are close to a couple of things happening and we are working very hard to get it done.

"It could be quite a busy period for us and we've made significant progress recently."
