Karl Duguid revealed that the lure of Championship football was too big to turn down after swapping Colchester for Plymouth Argyle. The 30-year-old came through the ranks at Layer Road since he was 16 but decided to call time on his career with the U's following their relegation to League One.
He told the club's official website: "Of course, I would have loved to play at the new ground but with the Layer Road chapter ending for the club, it was perhaps the right time for my own chapter with the Us to come to a close.
"Championship football was a big hook for me and I feel that I am at an age where I should be playing at this level. I spoke with the manager and was impressed by the plans that he has got."
