Grimsby boss Alan Buckley has completed a double transfer swoop after signing experienced defensive duo Matt Heywood and Richard Hope.Buckley recently lured Tranmere defender Robbie Stockdale to Blundell Park and has now bolstered his squad further ahead of the start of pre-season.

Heywood, 28, has made over 300 career appearances with Burnley, Swindon, Bristol City and Brentford and has agreed a two-year deal with the Mariners.

Meanwhile, Hope, who recently turned 30, has also penned a two-year contract and has had spells at Darlington, Northampton, York, Chester, Shrewsbury and Wrexham after starting out at Blackburn.
