Mark Reynolds has urged Ross McCormack to follow his lead and stay at Motherwell for another season - but insists there will be no hard feelings if the striker does quit Fir Park this summer.
McCormack held talks with Wigan in January and is keen on a move to England, with manager Mark McGhee all but resigned to losing the player.
Reynolds also has aspirations of playing at a higher level and was the subject of a failed bid by Rangers recently.
But the defender is in no hurry to quit Motherwell and would love the same to be true of McCormack.
"I can't speak on his behalf," said Reynolds. "He is looking at his options and Motherwell is still an option. Hopefully it's an attractive one.
"We will be playing in Europe and he is guaranteed first-team football here.
"He showed a lot of loyalty in January when he had options and he stayed to help us get that third spot in the SPL.
"I'm sure everyone at Fir Park will wish him the best whatever he decides."
Reynolds has no doubts about McCormack's ability to succeed in the Barclays Premier League if he does win a dream move to English football's top flight.
He added: "We saw last season the qualities that he's got.
"In some games, you had to just stand back and wonder at some of the things he did.
"If he finds a level of consistency, he can be one of the best players and establish himself in the Scotland first team as well."
Reynolds may be content to bide his time at Motherwell but is keen to progress at international level after watching team-mates McCormack and David Clarkson make their Scotland debuts at the end of last season.
He said: "A time comes in your career when you need to ask yourself why you're not in the international set-up.
"You see guys like David Clarkson and Ross McCormack making their debuts when they are Motherwell players.
"And you think, 'If they can do it, why am I not doing it'?"
Domestically, Reynolds has plenty to look forward to.
A third-place finish in the Premier League last season means a crack at the UEFA Cup and high hopes for another successful league campaign.
"This is going to be a much harder season," Reynolds admitted.
"The bonus last year was that we were an unknown quantity - after 10 or 11 games no-one expected us to continue with the performances.
"This year everyone knows what we are about and what we are capable of.
"We need to start this season the way we finished last season."
