Championship - Posh chief predicts big things

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes the newly-promoted club will take the Championship by storm this season.

FOOTBALL Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony - 0

Posh return to the second tier of English football on the back of successive promotions under Darren Ferguson.

And MacAnthony insists that momentum will prove to be a huge advantage for his young, vibrant side.

MacAnthony told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "We have something not a lot of teams have and that is two years of momentum and success achieved by players who have yet to reach their peak.

"I feel we will shock the football world and compete at the top end of the Championship this season. Our club has nothing to fear and hopefully we will play the same style of attacking football and let other teams worry about us and not worry about them.

"It's going to be a massive season for all of us and an enjoyable one. Of course the league is full of the so-called big boys, but history tells us teams like Wigan, Reading, Hull and, of course, Burnley can buck the trend and get to the promised land."

  1. Enjoy the season, but unfortunately, the Championship is no place for minnows like Peterborough and Scunthorpe, as my team, Southend, and also Colchester found out.
Unless you can spend big money, you will come down. There is a huge gap between Championship and League 1 and you won't be able to compete with the big boys.

  2. well da_hobson, what do i know. education time, i support a team that has lived the dream and paid for it, Charlton Athletic. so i think i am well versed in to pass judgement. having a good fan base is not going to keep posh up. the championship is a very hard division and there are better equiped sides 1/ financialy, 2/squad size, 3/ sorry to say posh will lose Ferguson to a bigger club. i watched your football against Millwall and thought your side lacked the physical side to it. believe me you will need that in the championship, just being a good football side, cuts nothing in the championship. once again enjoy the season but i think it will be a long hard season. barrysmith, donny the best footballing side we played last year hope you have a good season next year.

  5. I predict they will finish 20th or 21st too many better teams, I agree you have good fans and ambition but that isnt always enough, Argyle on the last day will be key and il be there hoping the greens stay up again. will be close at the bottom and I know Posh will be down in that fight for a fact. dont get ur hopes up lads

  6. Please, really what do you 2 know about anything? This is the best Posh squad in living memory with a young manager who will show loyalty due to the backing he has received from an ambitious chairman. The average gates will go up and I expect the team to survive handsomely and hopefully trouble the top 10.
There will be further additions to the squad as well as some loans coming in, don't forget who his dad is - we might get some ManUre young uns. I think people will be surprised at the football we play and a number of our players will be the subject of some envious glances from some of the so called "big teams" in division 2.
    Come on the Posh.

  7. Did he wake up and have his breakfast after he wrote this. The guy is living in a dream world, sorry to sat it will be a long hard season for posh. Even longer when Darren Ferguson goes to a bigger club to mange. The championship is a really hard division and i dont see posh having the squad capable of surviving.
