International Football - USA name Gold Cup squad

The USA, surprise Confederations Cup finalists, named a largely experimental squad for next month's CONCACAF Gold Cup.

FOOTBALL USA United States forward Freddy Adu, named in the Gold Cup squad - 0

Just four players, including forward Freddy Adu (pictured), were kept from the squad in South Africa in a 23-man roster including seven uncapped players.

The USA kick-off their defence of their regional title against Grenada on July 4 and face Honduras and Haiti before the knock-out stage.

Adu, Charlie Davies, Heath Pearce and Luis Robles were the four players from the Confederation Cup squad retained for the 12-team competition to be played at 13 venues across the USA.

All-time top scorer Landon Donovan and goalkeeper Tim Howard were among regulars left out.
