Ligue 1 - Madrid make Benzema enquiry

Real Madrid have made an enquiry about Lyon and France striker Karim Benzema, according to the Ligue 1 club.

The Manchester United target, 21, has been linked with a move away from Stade Gerland for the past two seasons but both player and club insisted that he will remain until at least the 2010 World Cup.

But, while Les Gones still maintain that he will stay, Madrid are prepared to splash the cash to bring yet another big name to the Bernabeu after the signing of Kaka and expected purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Benzema and Lyon have both confirmed their intentions to continue working together," the Ligue 1 club's director of communications, Olivier Blanc, was quoted as saying by Marca.

"The only new issue is that Real Madrid contacted us a few days ago to ask about the club's position regarding Benzema.

"But we know the player wants to stay one more year at Lyon and we want to keep him."

  2. i would hate to see benzema at manchester united, he­ rates himself one of the best players in the world, he­ would not fit in with style of play at man utd, i would­ prefer a player like eto'o who is a tried and­ tested player, he has proven himeslf at the highest­ level of football and is guaranteed to get you goals­ the same as david villa either of those would be a­ fantastic signing, also £45million for aguero,all­ because maradona compares him to himself, he needs to­ develop more before switching to a major club like man­ utd

  4. Benzema will make a mistake if he goes to Real because­ in Madrid there are just too much­ "stars".Kaka, Ronaldo etc.Manchester do need­ a striker but they need some playmakers too.
