Vincenzo Nibali won the Italian one-day Giro dell'Appennino race following a solo attack.

The Liquigas rider went away on the third of the five climbs, the Passo della Bocchetta, and held off his rivals over the final two ascents to finish 47 seconds clear.

Leonardo Bertagnolli (Diquigiovanni) and Marco Marzano (Lampre) completed the podium for the 70th edition of the race.
