Premier League - Stoke confirm Ashton bid

Eurosport - Thu, 25 Jun 17:36:00 2009

Stoke chairman Peter Coates has confirmed that manager Tony Pulis has made an approach to West Ham for striker Dean Ashton.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 Premier League West Ham Dean Ashton - 0

Coates, who also admitted the Potters would be interested in signing former England forward Michael Owen from Newcastle, told Sky Sports: "Tony has talked to West Ham and that's the stage we're at.

"Whether there's any deal to be done...

"Dean was at Stoke City as a boy so it would be full circle for him. Tony likes him as a player but there are lots of ifs and buts about it because of Dean's (injury) problems.

"I wouldn't have a clue at this stage whether anything will come of that."

  1. Michael Owen has been diagnosed with gender identity disorder and will soon be having a sex change. He is, however, looking at things from a positive stance and having trials with the England women's national team, so desperate is he to wear the Three Lions skirt again. Apparently Fabio Capello is not an advocate of playing top town tarts in the men's team. Reuters News Agency. Bootle

  2. I think that a fully fit Ashton is just as Good if not better than Cole. Games I have watched him play in he can win games and score goals. Of course there is the nagging doubt that he would be injured after 4 games. I dunno who do you replace him with?????

  5. Londonboy 1979 - I assume that 1979 is not the year of your birth, judging by the infantile rubbish you spout. Do you also spray rude words on walls? Grow up.

  6. Am a hammers supporter. Would be delighted to see Ashton go. He had 3 or 4 good games and spends most of the time on the treatment table. Get rid of the deadwood from the club and get players in that want to make us proud !!!!

  7. Would be glad to see him go we could even through in Dyer and a physio table Ashton has promised a lot but never stayed fit enough to deliver cash in now and lets sign some quality fullbacks and another decent midfielder

  8. I FEEL CLUB OWNERS SHOULD BE GETTING INVOLVED IN SIGNINGS COS SOME COACHES ARE SO BLIND THAT THEY WILL MAKE STUPID TRANFERS AND PUT THE CLUB IN RELEGATION.HOW CAN A COACH SIGN ASHTON.AN INJURY PRONE PLAYER,WESTHAM WILL BE TOO HAPPY TO GET RID OF HIM

  10. Londonboy1979 - Hahahahahaha! Eto'o to STOKE???? hahahahaha you seriously even think that might happen?? Hahahaha

They are pushing it with Ashton! I'm a West Ham fan and will be glad to see the back of him! I know it's not his fault, but we need to cash in and spend the money on Mancini :D

  11. On his day is one of the best in Premier league but problem is those days are few and far between, just cant rely on his fitness I say sell and buy a good prospect

  12. Comment hidden due to its low rating. Show

I'd prefer Eto'o if I were a Stoke fan, but, I don't see that happening, as Stoke are an appaling outfit who play in the bumhole of the universe.

  13. Deano always showed promise, but never delivered, mainly because of his injury record, if we can cash him in, and spend wisely, why not?????

  14. I'm a Stokie and a bit worried by our reported interest in Owen and Ashton. Owen can't and won't get his fitness back and is too interested in money and horses and Ashton lacks mobility because of his size. The best place for these two is the Fizzy Pop league where they can show their committment to the game and get their fitness back.

  17. See him at a local charity presenting a trophy, fat as a barrel, car looked like he had been sleepign in it.. Also seen him at local sainsburys, trolley full of cakes and crisps.. From what i see he werent interested in getting back!

  18. We need to get him fit and back out on the field as on his day he is as good as any striker in the top four teams. I agree he owes it to the Hammers to have a few good seasons and help us push for a top six finish. Cole and Deano could work with the quicker little players playing off them. Keep Deano and that top six finish is in sight.

  19. the guys class but can we depend on him. zola must have a few cards up his sleeve to let him go. we cant play a full season with just cole and jimenez. cole is world class by the way.

  20. Deano needs to prove something in terms of football
is he going to keep injury free !!
I would love to see him complete a full season
what is he capable of !!
he should be able to score 20 goals a season
Cole has improved / this should aid Deano in terms of goals
Do we need to sell him / who would be his replacement
All premiership teams require 4 strikers / to compete in this level, are West Ham serious enough to challenge ??
