Eurosport - Thu, 25 Jun 17:36:00 2009

Stoke chairman Peter Coates has confirmed that manager Tony Pulis has made an approach to West Ham for striker Dean Ashton.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 Premier League West Ham Dean Ashton - 0

Coates, who also admitted the Potters would be interested in signing former England forward Michael Owen from Newcastle, told Sky Sports: "Tony has talked to West Ham and that's the stage we're at.

"Whether there's any deal to be done...

"Dean was at Stoke City as a boy so it would be full circle for him. Tony likes him as a player but there are lots of ifs and buts about it because of Dean's (injury) problems.

"I wouldn't have a clue at this stage whether anything will come of that."

  1. A fully fit Dean Ashton is a great assest. question is will he ever be fully fit again?

  2. I think Dean is class if he can stay fit, but when you have someone like Carlton Cole playing the big forward role so well it really doesn't make sense to keep him. I would say sell him if you can get at least 10mil, that would be ideal, they'll need it to buy another support striker.

I'm not convinced on Nsereko yet, but it was his first season in the big leagues and his role is still yet to be defined. Di Michele was playing well along side Cole, but seemed lost without him. Tristan was a waste of money. I think they need to drop these weak links and let Zola find a young gem, he's done wonders for this club so far.

  3. Getting Ashton back next season will be like signing a new player. Zola would be an idiot to get rid of him! He scores impossible goals and would be great partner for rooney in South Africa next year.

  5. I think Deano owes it to West Ham to play for at least this season. The club has carried him for two seasons and nurtured him through his injuries. He should (and I hope he will) show some return-loyalty. He could become a legend at West Ham,and I hope he does the right thing. He's a big centre forward with good feet and pace...and there are not too many of them around.

  6. I for one dont think so, Dean is accident prone and a gamble every time he takes to the field
