Stoke chairman Peter Coates has confirmed that manager Tony Pulis has made an approach to West Ham for striker Dean Ashton.
Coates, who also admitted the Potters would be interested in signing former England forward Michael Owen from Newcastle, told Sky Sports News: "Tony has talked to West Ham and that's the stage we're at.
"Whether there's any deal to be done...
"Dean was at Stoke City as a boy so it would be full circle for him. Tony likes him as a player but there are lots of ifs and buts about it because of Dean's (injury) problems.
"I wouldn't have a clue at this stage whether anything will come of that."

There's nothing wrong with Ashton's ankle. He's been resting for 2 seasons. The price is £13 million.
