I'm staying at Arsenal - Fabregas

Thu 25 Jun, 04:37 PM

Cesc Fabregas has reacted to speculation over his future by insisting he is "wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal".

The Spain midfielder has been linked with moves to former club Barcelona and big-spending Real Madrid in recent days, and was quoted in a report berating his team-mates' "impotence" in their attempts to win silverware.

However, Fabregas has hit back at suggestions he could be ready to quit the Emirates Stadium and told www.arsenal.com: "I'm not sure how many times I need to talk directly about my commitment to Arsenal as I continue to say the same thing over and over again, but it appears that every time I have spoken to the Spanish media recently, my words have bounced back to England, leaving question marks about my future.

He added: "So, for anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great club."

Fabregas revealed his frustration at the Gunners' trophy drought which stretches back to the FA Cup final of 2005.

Comparing his situation to that of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is poised to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid after a glorious spell at Old Trafford, the 22-year-old was quoted as saying: "The absence of titles at Arsenal is what angers me the most.

"Cristiano said he's leaving Manchester United because he had nothing else to win. For me right now it is the exact opposite, seeing the impotence.

"This year we wanted it, we were giving everything - but we couldn't reach the level that everyone expected of Arsenal."

  1. Arsenal are a young team and the only way there go forward is if they stay together, aresnal have got the potential to win silverware, the champions league and Fa cup semi final is the best they've done in the last few seasons and they are going to be determined to beat that and they will win something next season only if its the carling cup-at least thats something.Arshavin was a great signing and as he's an older and more advanced player by age he will help arsenal go in the direction of silverware

"I'm staying at Arsenal" on condition that real madrid does not look my way. Fabregas has been massively influenced by the spanish dressing room. he's been made to feel inferior belonging to the least among the teams that contributed to make the national team. belonging to a trophiless arsenal.
definitely "I'm staying at Arsenal" is an after thought.

Arsenal should do all possible to win at least carling cup next season please esle faithfuls like fabregas may have their playing lifetime being trophiless

Remember Henry's comment when he won the champions league with barca - it was significant to his fading career life

  7. i guessed as much... trust the ever stupid English press to twist every word from players and try to create problems where they don't exist. Little wonder why the english team is so @#$%? please leave Arsenal alone... we don't need no english i-diots writing cr*p about our team and its players.

  8. Take that ED!

Footballers are no longer allowed to make any negative comment without it being reported as 'proof' that they hate life at X FC, want to leave, etc. He never said he wanted to leave, just that he was frustrated at Arsenal's lack of trophies. Steven Gerrard said the same thing in early 2005, and Liverpool won the Champions League. Fabregas has to ensure that his will to win helps, not hinders, the team, and is a benefit to everyone.
