Coleman plans formation change

Fri 25 Jul, 11:30 AM

Coventry manager Chris Coleman says he will revert back to a more conventional 4-4-2 formation this season after experimenting with a 4-5-1.Following his appointment as manager in February, Coleman regularly lined City up with five in midfield and a lone striker up front.

The Welshman has vowed to start the new campaign with two forwards as the Sky Blues look to go on the offensive.

"Last season I played one up as a central striker with two wide guys and packed the midfield because at the time I thought we had much of a muchness in the midfield," he said.

"So I will probably change it, and if we get Clinton Morrison we will have him, Leon Best, Freddy Eastwood and Robbie Simpson - who has looked good in pre-season - so we will have the players there that means we can afford to go with two strikers.

"We have got different dynamics through the middle of the park now as well with the two new midfield guys - Aron Gunnarsson and Guillaume Beuzelin. So I wouldn't have thought you will see as much of the formation we played last year."
