Rovers close in on Robinson deal

Fri 25 Jul, 02:15 PM

Blackburn are hopeful of completing a deal for Paul Robinson in the next 24 hours after they agreed a fee of around £3.5million with Tottenham.Rovers are now waiting on permission to begin talks with the 28-year-old England goalkeeper over his personal terms.

Rovers manager Paul Ince is keen for those discussions to be conducted as quickly as possible as he continues to piece together his squad ahead of the new season.

Blackburn chairman John Williams has once again refused to confirm that Robinson's arrival is imminent, but did admit that the situation is moving in the right direction.

"We have made good progress with our bid, but there are still some details to sort out," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

Once Robinson is officially confirmed as a Rovers player the club will then grant Brad Friedel permission to speak with Aston Villa.

Martin O'Neill's side have reached a conditional agreement to sign the American shot-stopper, but are waiting on the outcome of other developments at Ewood Park.
