Spireites goalkeeper wait goes on

Fri 25 Jul, 01:30 PM

Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson admits he may not be able to sign a goalkeeper until the week of the new League Two season.Dan Whatsize, 17, is the only recognised keeper at Saltergate after Barry Roche was allowed to leave last month to join League Two rivals Morecambe.

Trialists Scott Flinders and David Knight have kept goal during Chesterfield's pre-season friendly matches and with the start of the season little more than two weeks away, Richardson is waiting to sign a goalkeeper on a season-long loan from a Premier League or Championship club.

He said: "I am just waiting for clubs to sort out their squads so the situation may not be resolved for another 10 days.

"I want to bring someone in because I don't want to rush Whatsize at this stage as he is very young and I don't want to put him under too much pressure."
