Jose Baxter caught the eye as his stunning effort for Everton earned David Moyes' side a 1-1 friendly draw at Nottingham Forest on Friday.The 16-year-old struck at the midway point of the second period, with Everton trailing courtesy of Nuno Valente's own goal.

Everton welcomed Mikel Arteta back into their side following a lengthy lay-off but the sight of the Spaniard hobbling off in the first half will alarm Moyes. Andy van der Meyde also picked up an injury in the opening 45 minutes.

Everton created the better of the chances early on as Dan Gosling and Kieran Agard both forced Paul Smith into saves.

After the interval, Robert Earnshaw went close to opening the scoring, before Valente did just that in inadvertently beating his own goalkeeper with a hurried clearance.

Baxter, who had replaced van der Meyde, showed just why he is so highly regarded at Goodison as he struck a sublime 66th-minute leveller that gave Smith not a prayer from the edge of the box.

Both teams had chances to win it in the game's final stages but neither side could find a second, in what was an entertaining encounter at the City Ground.
