Kovalainen P1 as testing comes to a close

Fri 25 Jul, 06:34 PM

Ahead of the forthcoming testing ban, Heikki Kovalainen ended McLaren Mercedes' current programme on a high as he topped the time sheets at the Jerez circuit.

Kovalainen, sixth in the championship with 28 points, put in 83 laps today and set the fastest time of the week, beating the pace set by Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel on Wednesday with a time of 1:18.385s.

The Finn took over testing duties for the final day from Pedro de la Rosa for the final day and ran the new aero solution on the front wing which features small wings or 'ears' protruding from the lower area of the front wing.

With the test ban now place, the test team will be back in action next at Monza from August 27th.

  1. Agree with the comment below Ferrari haven't performed and i cant say i hate it because i love them on this form but as you said not topping the timesheets but not only that they haven't got into the 1.18sec this week somethings up i dont no wat it is but could they be under some pressure?

  2. Good for them. I know it's practice but i'm getting more concerned about Ferrari's pace nowadays. Regardless of what programs they're running, they haven't topped the sheets on any day the whole week.
The fact that they weren't able to means that something was not met on their test -a sort of validation on their effort.

  3. What has happened? McLaren ended this test period in P1 and the FIA have not decided to strip the car?
