Jimmy Fortune expects a tactical race to develop aboard Lucarno in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
Despite making all the running to claim the Princess of Wales's Stakes, Fortune is adamant last year's St Leger winner is a versatile animal.
However, he is well aware of the threat the favourite Duke of Marmalade poses after his impressive display at Royal Ascot.
"It looks a hot race and Duke Of Marmalade is a high-class horse," said Fortune.
"When he beat us here the last time, he went away as if a mile and a half will suit and he certainly wasn't stopping at the end.
"He will be the obvious one (to beat). There is Papal Bull as well - but he can be a bit quirky - and Youmzain has the best form so it's a really tough race.
"Apart from his run in France, my fellow has steadily improved all season and we saw him at his best last time.
"This is a step up, and he needs to step up as well, but he is a hardened four-year-old.
"It will certainly be a tactical race and I suppose I wouldn't want them to go too quick and then slow it up as Duke Of Marmalade has the best turn of foot."
