Jimmy Fortune deputised for the suspended Richard Hills to provide Ed Dunlop with victory in the John Guest EBF Maiden Stakes at Ascot courtesy of 2-1 favourite Derbaas.
The Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned colt flashed his tail in earnest once Fortune got serious with him.
But he kept finding more and got the better of newcomer Summers Target by three-quarters of a length.
Dunlop said: "The stalls were in the middle and there was nothing for him to race against.
"He did swish his tail when Jimmy hit him, but Jimmy said he was still going forward and that he is still a big baby.
"He does have some smart entries and we will take him home and see, but the Royal Lodge might be the race for him."
