Mick Channon's Sweet Lilly bounced right back to form in the listed European Breeders' Fund Lyric Stakes at York on Friday.
A four-time winner as a juvenile, Sweet Lilly won just once from nine starts as a three-year-old and was nought from six this season heading into this contest.
You wouldn't have guessed it viewing the closing stages on the Knavesmire as she flew down the centre of the track under Edward Creighton, coming from last to first to record a comprehensive one-and-a-quarter length success.
Sir Mark Prescott's Soft Morning was second, with Makaaseb a further one-and-three-quarter lengths back in third.
John Smith's Cup winner Flying Clarets had made the running under Paul Hanagan, but she faded on the fast ground, while Sugar Mint was given an easy time of things when she was badly squeezed for room two furlongs out.
Flying Clarets should bounce back to form later in the year on softer conditions, while Sugar Mint should be given another chance as she travelled well before finding no luck in-running.
As for the winner, 10 furlongs looks her trip, and she could well go in again now in the mood.
