Yeats Entered For Goodwood Cup

Fri 25 Jul, 06:09 PM

Yeats could bid to regain his crown in the Royal Bank Of Scotland Goodwood Cup next Thursday.

The peerless three-time Gold Cup winner landed the Group Two showpiece in 2006 and is one of 16 entries confirmed at the six-day stage.

Yeats could be joined in the line-up by stablemate Honolulu, who returned to form in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Chester Cup winner Bulwark finished fourth in the Queen Alexandra and is reported to be in sparkling form.

Trainer Ian Williams said: "Bulwark is probably in better form now than when he won the Chester Cup so I'm hopeful of a good run in the Royal Bank Of Scotland Goodwood Cup.

"Jim Crowley will take the ride and he'll probably be more suited to the two miles at Goodwood than he was by the longer trip at Ascot last time.

"This will play more to his strengths than the two miles and five furlongs that day."

Last year's winner Allegretto is again in the shake-up, while Sir Michael Stoute may additionally saddle 2005 scorer Distinction.

The Brian Ellison-trained Carte Diamond and Peppertree Lane from Mark Johnston's yard are also engaged at this stage.

Godolphin may run Sagara, Eastern Anthem and Regal Flush, with Mad Rush, Gee Dee Nen, Mores Wells, Tungsten Strike, Sergeant Cecil and Yellowstone completing the list of possibles.
