UEFA Cup winners Zenit St Petersburg were fined 37,000 euros for racist behaviour by their fans during their match against French side Marseille last season.
"Our disciplinary committee fined Zenit for racist conduct by their fans, the use of pyrotechnics and the display of a political banner during their match against Marseille," a spokesman for UEFA said.
The Russian side, who booked a place in the quarter-finals after winning the second leg against Marseille 2-0 in Russia on March 12, have three days to appeal, the UEFA spokesman added.
The club's coach, Dutchman Dick Advocaat, has said that he would not sign a black player for Zenit because he fears fan racism.
Zenit will play in this season's Champions League after winning the Russian Premier Division.

HISTORY DOES NOT TEACH ANYTHING TO PEOPLE! ESPECIALLY IN SPORTS! SPORTS SHOULD BIND PEOPLE NOT DIVIDE THEM!!
I'm stunned! What Happened! What the RUSKIES did say to the French! They are totally MAD!The RUSKIES went through hell with RACISM against them from the Germans! Now how they could do this? It's unbeleivable? I hope they will be punished........
I agree with you wishmastersg. Any team whose supporters display racist behaviour should be barred from all competitions for at least two years. It si time we remove this type of behaviour from sports because it is helping nobody
which century are living in? cant believe that racism is brought into sports. lets grow up and move on, i dont think a fine will be good enough to kick out racism, a ban to the club will be the best solution and a message will be shown that racism will never be condone..
