Newcastle endured a miserable afternoon at Brisbane Road as they were thumped 6-1 by League One side Leyton Orient.
The Os opened the scoring after four minutes when a Sean Thornton free-kick was headed home by the unmarked Jimmy Smith.
It was 2-0 in the 23rd minute when the hosts were awarded a penalty. Habib Beye was adjudged to have handled in the area under pressure from Adrian Patulea and Thornton slammed home from the penalty spot.
Newcastle got a penalty of their own on the half-hour when Obafemi Martins was bundled over and Joey Barton stepped up to score.
However, it was the hosts who extended their lead after 53 minutes when Scott McGleish produced a stunning overhead kick to beat substitute goalkeeper Fraser Forster. McGleish turned provider two minutes later as he cushioned a Jason Demetriou corner into the path of Tamika Mkandawire and he stabbed home.
The Magpies` disastrous afternoon continued with seven minutes remaining as Ryan Jarvis made it five with a neat side-footed finish and it was six three minutes later when Harry Baker coolly slotted home after good work by Loick Pires.

paul c..well said , i agree, think ashley is best chairman they have had, he's done a really good job! dont see anyone blaming shearer for taking them down, or keegan, its just ashleys fault??
I have no opinion either for or against Newcastle. I think from an outsider looking in most fans just find the whole scenario kind of surreal and due to the lack of real footbal or even interesting football stories are latching onto the whole "Newcastle in a mess" train just for something to do.
Personally I can't believe the amount of Abuse Ashley gets, from my perspective he hasn't actually done that much wrong, I'd blame the players and the managment staff before Ashley.
Also why the obssession with Shearer. He is the greatest English Centre Forward i've seen in my life time but as a manager seriously underperformed. I know he only had 8 games and they wern't his players but even someone who only has a short time with a team can install some spirit and drive yet they looked totally uninterested against Villa, that passion comes first and formost from the manager, regardless of experience.
I would love to see Newcastle and my own team (WBA) back in the big time but feel that until you get the "AShley has done us so wrong" monkey off your back that will never happen.
Good Luck (Apart from opening fixture) next season.
How embarrassing is that score-line? For Orient, substitute Peterborough, Scunthorpe, Blackpool, Sheffied United, Sheffield Wednesday, Notts Forest, Ipswich Town et al. Relaity bites, eh lads? HA Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Alright KGA perhaps i was a bit harsh kid when you come down to Bristol i'll buy you a proper cider kid Nova Scotia its 5 mins from the ground you'll love it best of luck for the season ahead kid
i just want to say.... hahahahahahahahahahahahaha hohohohohohohohohohohohoho heheheheheheheheheheehehehe oh jeeezzzz, my stomach hurts...... hahahahahahahahaha, oh god that was good.
I'm not in any way anti Newcastle (Liverpool fan) but live in the newcastle area now and lets be honest the squad are an embarrassment.......Harper,Krul,Beye,Bassong,Taylor,Bar ton(when not suspended), Butt and Martins are ok to good players but as you can only play one gk at a time, Bassong and Beye want away, Taylor needs an experienced head next to him to bring out his true potential (Campbell or Hyypia would have been ideal),Barton is a good player but seems to be addicted to controversy, Butt has 2 years max left in him and Martins doesn't seem interested anymore means it doesn't look good.....add this to players such as Coloccini (Looked like another Boumsong or Bramble),Nolan (looks a good stone over weight),Jonas (good 50% of the time, awful the other 50%),Duff (4 years past his peak) and Enrique (has potential but wants away) all who cost you a fortune in fee and wages and it's all doom and gloom. If a manager was put in charge I really believe he would have had a massive clear out by now as it was clear last season only a few really cared about the club, I also find it amusing how apart from Beye and Bassong (2 players who done well last season) no one has asked for a transfer......couldn't be because none of the players had relegation wage reduction clauses in their contracts could it??? getting paid the same to play Doncaster and Blackpool as they were to play Liverpool and Man Utd.
john connely (stop saying stuff in brackets)
Sean A, attend, you really are a knockout
HI Cameron, soz I went missing: tes, we lost to Benfica, that Leyton orient of Portugal...BUT we beat Athletico Madrid...ah, life in the fast lane....
"Breaking NEWS" Billy Smart has put a offer in to buy Newcastle , he explained to a reporter , with the amount of clowns and comedy coming out of Newcastle they were becoming a major threat to his world wide circus . And he liked there new Bananas in Pyjamas strip .
Sean A , I am a sunderland fan, we are guests on the newcastle page, I and many like me come on here for the banter and jokes with the newcastle fans, as they do on our pages, so lets keep it civil there is no place on here for abuse, so please keep it clean, thanks
hahahaha adrian spot on
vanessa,, complete twatt!!! hahaha! 6-1 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaHAHH AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA!!!
adrian..and why would most of picked newcastle??
if you could of picked any club for this to happen to, most would of picked newcastle. There a big CHAMPIONSHIP club are they, are they f*&k. You'll not be going anywhere next season. How funny was it in villa park when they showed that massive fat b*(*&rd crying, priceless
Sean A rsehole - the problem is, you NEVER talk about 'footy' you idiot!
Until you actually start talking about football, instead of hurling nasty, spiteful insult after insult, i will continue to mock and laugh at your serious lack of intelligence and your appalling literacy . . . you chump!
again newcastle will struggle cos the team our c r a p
