BSB - Haslam grabs double Cadwell win

HM Plant Honda's Leon Haslam secured his first double win of the season at Cadwell Park in the ninth round of the BSB Championship.

The 25-year-old continued his habit of winning at the Lincolnshire track to move him up to third in the overall riders' standings.

In both races, Rizla Suzuki's Tom Sykes finished second with Airwaves Ducati rider Shane Byrne coming in third.

Londoner Byrne still remains at the head of the overall standings, his 364-point haul maintaining a healthy 90-point lead over Sykes.

In the first race, Haslam stalked leader Sykes for much of the race, before making his move for a successful pass at Park.

Race Two started in similar fashion, with Sykes securing the lead at Cioppice on the opening lap, with Haslam and HM Plant Honda team-mate Cal Crutchlow right behind him.

There was to be no double podium finish for the Honda's, however, as Crutchlow crashed out going into Hall Bends on the third lap. He did manage to remount and continue, but finished way down the order in 15th.

Halsam told the official BSB website after the second race: "The weekend didn't start great here for me, I had the crash in practice then we had a wet session and qualifying didn't go according to plan and I was fourth. But the HM Plant Honda worked like a dream today, it was unfortunate for Cal to crash out but these things happen.

"To get the first double win of the year for the HM Plant Honda team is great and I think it might be the first time the team have taken the double here at their local circuit. We had a bit of bad luck at the start of this year and I did lack a bit of confidence but the team have worked hard and the bike has increased ten-fold now and we are back to winning ways."

  1. Sir, with reference to your coverage of the British Superbikes, Eurosport has missed the opportunity to create a truly balanced and informative action packed programme. Your editing has fallen into the F1 trap by following only the first few riders, it is clearly apparent that the people who select the pictures for the fans are not fully conversant with Superbike racing!

As a race fan I would like to be informed with regard to the entire pack of rider taking part in the series not just the select few. I like to know what’s happening in the whole of the race and find myself required to find this information via the timing link because of the lack of coverage by the Eurosport transmission. There are usually several excellent battles happening further down the order that can be watched at the track but missed by Eurosport.

Jack Burnical & Jamie Whitham make a great double act but even their banter will become limited with the cameras on the same few riders. Please be more expansive with your coverage of the British Superbikes and the riders in the future.
