Tom Coronel claimed a brilliant second place in the Nurburgring 1000km which counts towards the Le Mans Series.
The Dutchman, who was sharing the Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R of SNORAS Spyker with Jarek Janis, took the start and proved immediately competitive, settling into seventh place.
As the race progressed Coronel and Janis climbed further up the classification, reducing the gap on the leading cars.
During the final hour they chased second-placed Team Modena Ferrari, who eventually spun into the gravel.
Coronel then had to fight to defend his second position from Anthony Beltoise in the FBR Ferrari. After a clash the Spyker spun but resumed in second place after Beltoise was given a stop-and-go penalty.
"It's a dream," Coronel said. "We really needed this result. It was one of my hardest races ever, but well worth fighting for. My last stint felt like doing qualifying laps for one and a half hours.
"We were in a heavy fight with Beltoise in the Ferrari. I saw him closing in, so when he hit me it did not really come as a surprise.
"With five years of WTCC experience you tend to be prepared for situations like this... We are all over the moon with this result. The team worked very hard to achieve this."
Team Felbermayr Proton won the GT2 class race.
