Premier League - Bebe can't make reserve team
Eurosport - Wed, 25 Aug 12:32:00 2010
Sir Alex Ferguson's new £7m signing Bebe has made so little an impact in training at Manchester United he was not even considered for a reserve team match.
Having failed to impress at the club's Carrington base, the new £7 million summer signing was omitted from the reserves' line-up against neighbours Manchester City on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old, whose signing for United was hailed as a fairytale two weeks ago, was a virtual unknown before Ferguson took a punt on him.
Ferguson later admitted he had not even seen Bebe play - nor watched a video of him - but was still willing to take a chance on him after the recommendations of United scouts and his former assistant at Old Trafford Carlos Queiroz.
A deal was pushed through quickly with clubs such as Real Madrid and Benfica also circling with intent, and Ferguson later claimed that "sometimes you just have to go with instinct".
But it appears the Portuguese forward is taking longer to settle in Manchester than expected, with his touch and control reportedly way off the standards United demand, leading reserve team boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to overlook him for the match in Hyde.
Bebe's rise to prominence has been nothing short of spectacular. An undistinguished spell at Portuguese third tier club Estrala da Amadora was followed by a free transfer to Guimaraes before United picked him up for £7.4m.
While Bebe was absent from Solksjaer's squad of 16, the match saw the return of midfielder Anderson, who has not played since damaging his cruciate ligament six months ago.
Gary Neville, Wes Brown and Michael Carrick also featured in the 3-1 win Ewen Fields hitting one Federico Macheda grabbing a brace.

haha berbaflop-30 million punds. fergie sucks. bebe come to chelsea u will be appreciated and not involve with fergie's unreasonable rant at u.
What a waste of money for Babe and Berbatov
The Man Utd haters on here are missing the point of how much any club has spent in the past 10 years. Yes, United have broken the transfer record a couple of times but surely thats not the point is it? The point is the total amount of money spent on players. I do not know the exact values but i know Chelsea and City have probably spent more. Chelsea at least have won cups in the past 7 years but city have paid for players like robinho, Jo, Kolo Toure, Lescott and have paid over the odds for them.I am sorry but you can not tell me robinho and Jo have played their worth at City. United on the other hand bought players like nani, berba, anderson and older players than that but the key thing here is that we have won trophies so we could at least justify our spending as we were probably spending less money than we made. Most of the debt emanates from the Glaziers takeover and i think you will find that every company borrows money for one reason or the other so every company technically has debt.
Jameswaddington: You clearly don't know your backside from your elbow. United were not even the first football club to become a PLC (Spurs were) and there were no FA rules against it.
Tha majority of the club's wealth has come from the huge gates we have enjoyed at Old Trafford since the 1960s combined with a good transfer policy. United's net spend in the 24 years of the Ferguson era is under £160m - far less than City & Chelsea and less than even Liverpool and Spurs during that time. In his first ten years his net spend on transfers was just £5m - yet we apparently "bought" our success. Yeah, we paid record fees for Keane and Cole of almost £11m between them - but we sold £19m worth of players during that time as well.
Also, they had no involvement in the Champions League's change to allow runners up (and later another two clubs) into the competition. Should they have said "No thanks UEFA, we didn'f win it, so we will sit it out" and then just let any other team you don't have a bee in your bonnet about take their place? I think you'll find in the 13 years since they changed the rules in 1997, United have qualified as Champions on 7 occasions. Liverpool would have qualified 0 times rather than 8, Arsenal 3 rather than 12 and Chelsea 3 times rather than 8.
7m is a lot for someone like him, why?? could have used it on a bid for ozil!
smalling and chicarito was good signings cuz their good...

Bebe is not good enough to be a United player.
dev_fest - Moores only became chairman in 1991, so how can he have funded Shankley (1959–1974) or Paisley (1974–1983)?

He could be sir Alex's secret weapon so watch out the big great Scot might have something up is sleeve i dont think man u would buy a out of form player for 7 million but like united we'l have to wait and see.
I don't get it sir, why do u need this kind of players when you have 100 million euro in your pocket?
bandit your right, and the ttouble with city is that its full of moss side jigaboos
Loan him out to Div 2 or 3. Let him have some experience on field first. Assuming the 7 million had already burned! Or lastly, donate him away!
Don't fear! The boy will take this in and use it to improve. He is a self-made-man and I believe that it's not the first time people doubt his abilities. And until now, they have been wrong....
