Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed Egyptian international Mohamed Shawky snubbed a transfer window switch to Sheffield United.
The 27-year-old has played just five games for Boro this year, with his last start coming in May.
Southgate told Sky Sports: "Mohamed had the opportunity to go to Sheffield, but turned it down."
Shawky is currently deemed not fit enough to be involved in the first-team squad but Southgate has not ruled out considering the midfielder for selection after he regains his fitness.
"He's had a lot of commitments with Egypt over the past few weeks. He needs to get fit again and back in full training and then he will be considered," said Southgate.

Hi Wendy, bet you enjoyed the result last Friday?? Remember me, Martin the Owl. All the best
WE don't want player's who don't want to come to the club, they would not give 100%,let him rot on the bench.
