British Gymnastics chief executive Brian Stocks has come to the defence of a potential switch to Wembley Arena at the London 2012 Olympics.
Organisers of the Games have stated their desire to cut costs to the tune of £40million by moving badminton, boxing and rhythmic gymnastics to the North-West London venue, rather than constructing a temporary venue near the Olympic Park in Stratford.
Key to their decision to oppose the move is the extended distance from the Olympic Village but Stocks insists it would be an honour to see rhythmic gymnastics at Wembley.
"We would be delighted to compete at a historical site like Wembley which played host to the 1948 Olympics," said Stocks.
"Of course we would like to be closer to the centre of the Olympic Village because it would reduce some of the travel time.
"But Wembley would be an ideal venue, rather than a drafty tent that could cause other problems."
Mayor of London Boris Johnson is keen on the move in a bid to reduce costs as he becomes increasingly concerned by the size of the London 2012 budget which has increased from £2.4bn to £9.3bn.
