FOOTBALL 2009-2010 Juventus - Trezeguet - 0

An 85th-minute equaliser from David Trezeguet rescued Juventus' unbeaten start to the Serie A season but a 2-2 draw at Genoa was not enough to see The Old Lady return to the top of the table.

Juventus looked set to taste defeat for the first time since last March and their previous visit to the Luigi Ferraris when Hernan Crespo headed Genoa into a 2-1 lead a quarter of an hour from time only for Trezeguet to strike late.

It was third time lucky for Juventus as the visitors, who had earlier seen two goals disallowed for offside, received the benefit of the doubt as Trezeguet headed into the net from close range.

Vincenzo Iaquinta and Giandomenico Mesto had exchanged equally emphatic first-half strikes in the first half.

The draw, though in the end gratefully received by the visitors, put an end to their 100 per cent start to the season.

Juve grabbed the opening goal as early as the sixth minute. Iaquinta drilled an imperious shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area after a great move from the visitors which started with Claudio Marchisio's run and cross down the left. A Mauro Camoranesi dummy saw the ball arrive at the feet of Iaquinta and the Italy international needed no second invitation.

Amauri's struggles in front of goal continued throughout. The Brazilian striker, who has not scored in his last 16 games, could quite easily have sent his team into a three-goal lead in the first half but twice missed the target with his head following typically precise set-piece deliveries from Fabio Grosso.

The former Palermo player was taught a heading lesson by Mesto's 31st-minute equaliser. The pocket-sized forward rose well to meet a Giuseppe Sculli cross and plant a header firmly beyond the reach of Gianluigi Buffon.

Genoa introduced Crespo at the restart but Gian Piero Gasperini's side played second fiddle to their visitors at the start of the second half.

Eight minutes after the restart, Marchisio's ball over the top sprung Genoa's offside trap. Iaquinta had just Marco Amelia to beat but the keeper did enough to put off the striker and his shot was deflected wide for a corner.

Buffon was called upon to make his first save of the game in the 71st minute when Sculli's shot from distance required a tip over the bar.

Moments after Iaquinta had had a goal ruled out for offside, the home side took the lead against the run of play.

Crespo may lack the pace he once had, but the Argentine's aerial ability remains and he headed emphatically past Buffon at the near post following a cross from scorer-turned-provider Mesto.

Giorgio Chiellini prodded home what he thought was an 84th-minute equaliser, but for the second time in the second half the assistant's flag frustrated the visitors.

It was third time lucky in the 85th minute, though, as Trezeguet, benefitting from a tight offside decision, converted Chiellini's header back across goal to capitalise on inept Genoa defending from a set-piece.
