Harewood set for bow in Robson tribute game

Fri, 25 Sep 10:00:02 2009

New loan signing Marlon Harewood could go straight into the Newcastle squad for the trip to Ipswich.

Harewood, who has completed the formalities of a three-month deal, is expected to join fellow newcomer Zurab Khizanishvili, who was ineligible for the midweek Carling Cup defeat at Peterborough, for which caretaker manager Chris Hughton made nine changes.

Hughton is likely to restore the bulk of his senior men for the encounter, although he will be without the injured Joey Barton (ankle) and the suspended Danny Guthrie, while Danny Simpson (also ankle) remains a major doubt.

Shola Ameobi (foot) will be sidelined for some time yet but while Jonas Gutierrez (hamstring) will not make Saturday's game, he is expected to resume training on Monday.

It is sure to be an emotional afternoon as both sets of supporters pay tribute to the late Sir Bobby Robson, with the north stand at Portman Road to be officially renamed after the manager before the game.

  1. The 30-year-old, who will wear squad No.10, arrived at the club's North Tyneside headquarters this morning before putting the finishing touches to a three-month deal.

Harewood will train with his new team-mates today before travelling with the squad to Suffolk for this weekend's Championship clash against Ipswich Town.

The Londoner has netted 119 goals from 305 career starts, his most fruitful spell coming during a four-year stay at West Ham when he found the back of the net 56 times.
So for all the doubters saying hes *%$£ in the 9 games hes played hes scored in 7 of them, thats a good deal i reckon
