PSV Eindhoven defender Eric Addo has been banned by UEFA after he apparently spat at Fenerbahce's Semih Senturk.
The incident, which happened in Tuesday night's Champions League match in Eindhoven, was not seen by referee Howard Webb, but UEFA have acted retrospectively after seeing video evidence.
The Dutch club have chosen not to appeal against a four-match ban handed to the Ghana international, which will see him miss the remaining three group matches plus the first leg of the next round tie should they progress.
PSV director Jan Reker told the club's website: "PSV cannot accept this behaviour on the field. It must never happen and it is very serious.
"We were quite surprised that it was Eric Addo who lost his self-control.
"He is normally a real example for other players - in all his years at PSV he has never behaved badly.
"Eric admitted to us that he lost his self-control and he apologised. We have dealt with this matter internally.
"Let one thing be absolutely clear: spitting does not belong on the football pitch."
