Juventus Edge Out Torino

Sat 25 Oct, 10:19 PM

Juventus broke back into the top 10 of Serie A on Saturday night with their first win in five games, a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over city rivals Torino.

A goal from Amauri in the 48th minute decided the 224th Turin derby in the Bianconeri's favour at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Brazilian forward touched the ball through the legs of Marco Di Loreto and used his strength to hold off Simone Barone as he led the ball into the penalty area.

His low shot from an angle managed to squeeze underneath the Torino goalkeeper on its way into the back of the net.

It was Amauri's third goal in a week and, as on Tuesday, it proved decisive.

A penalty 11 minutes from time rescued a point for high-flying Catania from a 1-1 draw as Siena continued to prove a tough side to crack on their home ground.

Going into the game Marco Giampaolo's side had collected seven of their eight points at home, and they looked set to add another three to that haul when Emanuele Calaio headed his side in front with quarter of an hour remaining.

But with 79 minutes on the clock Michele Paolucci was brought down in the Siena area, and Giuseppe Mascara stepped up to score the first goal for an opposition side at the Stadio Artemio Franchi this season.
