LONDON (AFP) - Star quarterback Tom Brady said playing at London's Wembley Stadium here on Sunday reminded him of the Super Bowl after he led the New England Patriots to a 35-7 thrashing of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Brady, three-times a Super Bowl winner with the Patriots, had an off-day yet still threw three touchdowns as the winless Buccaneers suffered their seventh straight defeat this season.
This was the third regular season NFL match to be played at Wembley, the home of English football or soccer and, while the previous two had been close contests, this time a capacity crowd of over 84,000 were treated to something akin to an exhibition.
"It was like a Super Bowl, all the flashbulbs going off and the fans waving their flags for the first five minutes of the game, you don't see that too often," Brady said after the Patriots went 5-2 for the season.
"It was obviously very exciting for the fans and it's a privilege for the players to come over here and enjoy that experience."
He added: "Hopefully the fans really enjoyed it. I know it wasn't as close a game as they've had here in the past but we came over there looking for the victory and we did that and it's going to be a fun ride home tomorrow."
This match marked the latest stage in the NFL's bid to expand into England, amidst talk that one day a major side might be based here.
Brady for one was keen on a return to Wembley especially if, as is the case now, teams get a weekend off to recover from their trip.
"If we get a bye week after it each time, I'm all for it," Brady said.
"It was a real fun experience for all of us. It probably won't happen again for any of us, so we can all retire 1-0 in London."
Brady's inexperienced Buccaneers counterpart Josh Johnson threw three interceptions before half-time.
This match was designated as a home fixture for Tampa but a change of scene did little for the Buccaneers.
The Patriots came into this fixture on the back of a record-equalling 59-0 hammering of Tennessee last weekend and within 19 minutes at Wembley were 21-0 in front.
Brandon Meriweather made two interceptions in the first six minutes, including a touchdown.
