Altidore fined over Twitter revelation

Hull manager Phil Brown has disciplined striker Jozy Altidore after the youngster revealed the reason for his omission from the side on Saturday on Twitter.

The USA striker was left out for the dismal goalless draw with fellow strugglers Portsmouth at the KC Stadium after arriving late and he then compounded the error by revealing all.

Brown was far from happy with the 19-year-old on-loan Villarreal forward, and said: "It's going to cost him a lot of money, unfortunately. That for me is information that stays in house. The reason he wasn't on the bench was our business."

He added: "Jozy was on the bench until 2.10 when I decided to change it.

"It's unacceptable behaviour, full stop. You prepare all week for a matchday, mentally and physically. To ask a player to arrive an hour and a half before a game is not too much to ask is it?"

The Altidore issue and the failure of record signing Jimmy Bullard to make his home debut were the most noteworthy aspects of a dour Barclays Premier League basement scrap.

Bullard had been expected to start after making his return from a nine-month lay-off as a substitute at Hull on Monday, but Brown revealed the £5million midfielder had suffered a shin injury playing for the reserves.

Brown said: "Jimmy took a whack in the game on Tuesday. It was probably an over-zealous lad who was looking for a scalp.

"He had it on his mind Thursday and Friday, and that is the only reason he didn't play any part.

"There have been one or two suggestions it's the knee but the only coincidence is that it's the same leg."

  1. Josy was wrong but he really blamed himself. Brown doesen't realize the guy's potential and instead of acting like a loser hardass that he is, he sould play Josy and get a few needed goals.

  2. so he keeps tabs on Jozy on the internet in his own time, but Myhill and Gardener had a bust up outside the tunnel after the first half... Get your priorities right mate

  3. the strength of interest between these two dire sides is obvious, just four comments says it all.i really don't think anyone will give a @#$% if both of these sides were relegated, hull escaped last year because of the apathy that swept through newcastle, there will not be any such saving graces this year.and as for portsmouth, the iffy arab who has bailed them out even neded a bail out himself....again,that says it all

  4. is that it then for mr Bullard it's a good job footballers play in slippers these days or we'd not see any football at all either play or retire and as for Brown well he could pick his nose let alone a team

  6. Twitter sucks. Plus Jozy shouldn't be Twittering during game time. It's stupid and immature. Plus arriving late to the game doesn't exactly set the best example to the rest of the team. So I agree with Brown for not playing him and fining him. Jozy should think better the next time.

  7. Hey Brown, you @#$%, how about keeping the disciplinary measures "in house" as well? How about starting your team's best young striker--or do you want to be relegated . . .
