Di Matteo wanted spot-kick

Sun, 25 Oct 11:42:34 2009

Roberto Di Matteo was left to bemoan a "clear penalty" that was not given as West Brom dropped to third in the Championship after an uninspiring goalless draw at Coventry.

There was very little to entice a crowd of 20,871 inside the Ricoh Arena to raise themselves from their seats with a distinct lack of quality throughout the encounter.

Albion should have been handed a chance to break the deadlock from the spot in first-half injury time when Jerome Thomas appeared to be tripped by Martin Cranie.

But instead of pointing to the spot referee Keith Stroud reached for his yellow card and booked the Albion winger for diving.

Di Matteo said: "It was a clear penalty.

"I've seen a replay and he touched Thomas. He just went down a bit late as he tried to stay on his feet. But there was a touch."

  1. Definition of striker - a footballer who scores goals. Paul C. is splitting hairs again. No criticism of Miller. Out
of our other "strikers", Bednar is the only one who looks like scoring. Wood may come good in time, the others
have been disappointing. Even if they are our "strikers"

  2. Bednar is our best striker, but starved of service when he has played. Moore is back to his lethargic ways as before. Reid not given a chance up front, when he has played its out wide (another RDM square peg in a round hole - see also Koren, Jara, Cech). Wood not got it yet. Needs time only young. Miller, injured and will he be the same again if he ever plays? and finally Cox. The striker signed by the club before RDM was appointed, that scored 30 odd goals last season and hasn't been given a chance to show what he can do. Needs a run of games, from the start. Everyone else given a chance, why not Cox? Over to you RDM to answer that one!

  3. Why don't Cox get a decent run? more mobile than others and you don't become a bad player overnight after scoring 3o odd goals last season!!

  4. And Moore, Cox, Reid, Wood and Miller.

Just caus there not very good (Or injured) doesn't mean their not our strikers.

  5. Seem to be clutching at straws, if we need a penalty to win. What are the strikers doing ? Oh, I forgot, we don't
have any, apart from Roman Bednar
