Holloway happy with point

Sun, 25 Oct 14:24:26 2009

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway was delighted with his side's hard-earned point at Swansea.

The visitors were under pressure throughout at the Liberty Stadium but Swansea could not find a way through as the game ended goalless.

"We earned our point even though our keeper was the busier but if there was only one team going on to win then it probably was Swansea," admitted Holloway.

"They will think they should have had three points while we are going away happy with one."

  1. Thanks HR. Apologies for some of my more 'prattish' moments. It does look like Blackpool have 'arrived' as a championship team. We might need more than this season to build on the present positives, mind you. So what, we've waited a few years now, we can be patient for a bit longer if we have to be. I just hope that the 'championship machine' can accommodate such patience! We don't really want to have to start from scratch again next year. Oh no!
You mention a few players in your comments. I was thinking about Blackpool's Peter Suddaby the other day when I was in the Ford garage next door to Plough Lane Ground, Wimbledon (now a block of flats.) Peter was outstanding at the back for Blackpool. He left for a little-known club called Wimbledon and played a significant part in their rise to ... well everyone knows the rest. BFC has played a big part in our country's football heritage one way or another!

  2. Well I for one enjoy your comments Will but Im probably worse cos each point we gain I think its one closer to avoiding the dreaded drop .. also must say I find Im getting a bit excited by seeing pool back in the position ive not seen since Micky Burns , Hutchison , Craven and the like were around ..I cant wait for match day but I think we need to start picking up the odd win away

  3. I didn't intend to spread 'gloom and doom,' genuine apologies Garagehead. I will be cheering for Blackpool as loudly as anyone over the coming months, I can assure you. Yes, you are perfectly correct. My dour point of view doesn't do much for the 'feel good factor,' I will try to see the glass as half-full before I type anything in future. I am too defensively minded.
    Thanks for your well-written comments.
Let's hope the next game is not as difficult as I suggested and that Blackpool score a hatful of goals.

  4. oh good grief william vaughan, try looking at your half empty glass as being half full for a change. Blackpool are where they are in the table because they have had better results than those below them. simple. Thats how the table works. They have beaten top teams, they have scored a lot of goals. They pass the ball well, they move intelligently. If all you have is doom and gloom william, keep it to yourself and for gods sake stay at home on matchday, don't go spreading pessimism amongst those who are enjoying this time for BFC.

  5. I hope that the 'Pool players keep the theme of this article in their minds. Since August, Blackpool have shown themselves to be a very sound championship side. Nothing more! There will be several games between now and May 2010, particularly away, where they will have to do alot more than just turn up and do pretty passing!
Half the championship teams could get a draw against 'Pool on their home grounds on current form. That is the reality! The solution is to read the current league table and to judge what is realistic as each game comes up. It is not about just 'Blackpool,' it is about the performances of the teams just above and below them in the league. If a winning goal comes, good, if it doesn't, you still get a bonus point for a draw. Go out with the right mentality for each game.
I am a committed Blackpool fan, but at present I am not conviced that we can reach the play offs. There are too many teams performing just as well, sorry fellow 'Pool fans.
The next game is Doncaster away. Keepmoat? Great stadium. Home crowd? Over 10,000, very supportive! The team? Keen to go forward with a swagger. Tough, rugged players, take no prisoners! Local rugby tradition.
On that day a draw would be no disgrace. Just look at who everyone else is playing, all of them won't win.
