McGhee plays down Levein rift

Sun, 25 Oct 09:21:59 2009

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee dismissed claims from Dundee United boss that his words had inspired them to a 2-0 win when the sides met on Saturday.

Goals from Damian Casalinuovo and Morgaro Gomis secured United a deserved win, with Levein revealing afterwards that comments attributed to McGhee about his players had proved the perfect motivation.

But McGhee said he did not believe it was his words that had spurred the Arabs on to victory.

He said: "That was something that was rehashed from two years ago and I said that what I said then still applies but I don't think that changed today.

"I don't think me saying that had anything to do with them beating us. They beat us because we didn't defend two set pieces well enough. I thought we were actually the better side for the rest of the game."

  1. We beat Aberdeen simply because we are much better than them. It's not rocket science McGhee.
