Championship - Cardiff avoid winding-up order

Cardiff City have avoided a winding-up order after a court hearing agreed a payment schedule for an outstanding tax bill.

The Bluebirds owe an undisclosed amount to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs but insist the payments are on schedule and that the club remains on a sound financial footing.

"Cardiff City Football Club have a payment schedule in place with HRMC, and there is no prospect of the club being wound up," the Welsh club said on their website. "This payment schedule was agreed with HRMC some time ahead of the court hearing.

"Cardiff City have every confidence in their future financial stability and fully expect to be in a position to make further investment in its playing squad in the January transfer window."

The new comes on the same day the club appointed Malaysian tycoon Dato Chan Thien Ghee onto the board.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale (pictured) believes the move will further the potential for the Bluebirds to make inroads into Asia and attract more investment.

"The fact TG has accepted this appointment demonstrates the confidence that exists that Cardiff City can, with the right level of additional investment whether directly or through the broader global commercial opportunites, become an established top-flight football club," Ridsdale said.

"I am very proud to be joining the board of Cardiff City at this time, Chan added.

I believe that together with the existing board I can provide Cardiff City with the additional resources it requires to achieve the ambition of attaining Premier League football."
