Former world champion John Parrott held his nerve to secure a 9-8 victory over Patrick Wallace in the second round of UK Championship qualifying in Telford.
The veteran led 7-5 and 8-7 but the match went the distance, and he finally booked a third-round tie against Dominic Dale with a 77 break in the 17th frame.
Norwich cueman Barry Piches, a former UK Championship quarter-finalist, was beaten 9-7 by Craig Steadman.
