Paralysed cycling champ 'cured' after crash
A Dutch cyclist who has represented her country at the Paralympics could be set to compete in the able-bodied event after an amazing incident saw her regain the use of her legs.
The Independent reports that Monique van der Vorst was paralysed from the waist down and had been confined to a wheelchair for 13 years.
She won two silver medals at the Paralympics by powering a bike with her hands but last year she was knocked off her bike in a crash.
What could have led to a serious injury actually did the opposite. Van der Vorst started to feel her feet tingle and within months she was able to walk.
Her recovery was so rapid that she started competing on a regular bicycle - then progressed to a point that has seen her earn one of just 11 places in a top women’s professional cycling team.
Van der Vorst is hoping her form escalates to such a level that she will be able to compete at the 2016 Olympics.
"The sudden change of standing after being in a wheelchair is indescribable because suddenly the whole world has a different perspective," she told the paper.
"It is really nice walking next to someone and being able to look straight into that person’s eyes."
Van der Vorst (pictured above competing at the Beijing Paralympics) was training for the London Paralympics when her accident happened. She has now signed with the Rabobank professional cycling team.
"It seems like a miracle," said team spokesman Luuc Eisenga.
"When we met Monique, we saw an athlete with incredible willpower and the right mentality for sport.
"She has a really good level in cycling and we believe we can help her develop as a professional bike rider."

I think her doctors must have mis-diagnosed her paralysis. The spine doesn't regenerate and fuse back together. maybe a miracle, but maybe poor medical care from the first injury. Great story though!

If anyone believes in mushrooms or a god and derives a benefit from doing so, good for them. It's the sanctimonious who attempt to force their beliefs on others that is irritating. There has been enough suffering throughout the ages on behalf of religion - The Inquisition, etc - without pushing strident opinions here.

What does the cyclist think? Do you believe that God allowed this? Do u believe in God? Do u thank him, do you have hope for others?
Why abuse God about this? Only he could cure her, apparently; since she was paralyzed for so long, doctors obviously couldn't help. However, humans can do something about the starving children in Africa, particularly the rich ones, only they're too busy making more money they don't need and depriving the less fortunate of their ability to survive. They definitely don't care about the poor and starving.

if god did this then did he put a clearly talented lady in the prime of her life in a wheel chair,
and only after 12 year decided she had had enough and had her be involved in a accident to recover her use of her legs ,

If you believe there is no God you better thiink again, because, God is there from the beginning, middle and to the end of the word.I praised the Lord almight to let this woman walk again through what you could call tribulations, and turns it to glory for her. Miracles happens and this is one ways of how God does his thing, he know the best for all of us, he works in a miraculous ways and we should respect and worship God always. I thank God for what he has done in this woman life.
