A Scott McGleish strike was enough to see off Chesterfield 1-0 and ensure Wycombe turned up the heat on the leading pack in League Two.Paul Lambert's men - who have only lost twice at Adams Park - eased to their eighth home win thanks to McGleish's 16th goal of the season after 26 minutes.
But it would have been more had leading scorer McGleish and substitute Leon Knight found their shooting boots after the restart.
Chesterfield - fresh from Monday's 4-0 thumping of Hereford - nearly stunned the home fans when Jamie Ward forced a good save from Frank Fielding early on. Wycombe hit back immediately when Spireites goalkeeper Barry Roche was called into action by Tommy Doherty's clever long-range effort.
And it was the Chairboys who found themselves in front against the run of play in the 26th minute when McGleish collected the ball and fired home from the edge of the area.
Sergio Torres set up McGleish after the interval but he spooned over before the Argentine saw his glorious cross headed over by Knight shortly afterwards as the Wycombe defence held strong.
