Warnock: Eagles owed Derry

Sat 26 Jan, 02:00 PM

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock says the club owed Shaun Derry after his impressive displays for the Eagles while on loan.Derry sealed a permanent move from Leeds earlier in the week and Warnock revealed the midfielder has been influential to Palace's impressive form.

The former Sheffield United boss told the club's website: "I felt we owed it to Shaun, he's contributed enormously to how we've got on.

"He loves the club and the fans like him. I'm sure he is a more complete player in his current spell than when he was here the first time.

"I sold Shaun a few years ago when I was at Sheffield United. A couple of years later we played against him and I went onto the pitch afterwards and said to him that I had to take my hat off to him because he was a far better player than he was before I sold him.

"He's had a decent career, but I still think he wants to go on and win something here."
