However, the victory came at a price, with their Arsenal centre-half Kolo Toure being stretchered off with a groin strain just before the break, in what will also be worrying news for Arsene Wenger.

Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, Kader Keita, and Aruna Dindane all got on the scoresheet as the Elephants showed why they are being talked about as potential champions.

Benin's goal came from the much-hyped Helsingborgs striker Razak Omotoyossi, but only in the last minute when the match was long over.

The Ivorians took charge of the contest with two goals in four minutes just before half-time which killed of the match as a contest. .

For the first goal, Yaya Toure won the ball in midfield and then clinically sliced open the defence with a superb low ball that Drogba was then able to run onto before calmly placing the ball beyond Benin goalkeeper Rachad Chitou.

Then the Toure brothers combined for the second, with Kolo, in one of his last actions before going off, picking up the ball at the back post after Yaya had missed heading home a corner; Kolo then showed great feet to control possession before sliding across a lovely low pass that his younger sibling was able to tap into the net.

Ivory Coast had chances to score before that too, with Dindane heading a Salomon Kalou cross off the post and Drogba firing over from eight yards out when he really should have hit the target.

Benin weren't just sitting back themselves though, with Stephane Sessegnon in particular, always proving a threat, and he had the best moment for the underdogs in the first half but Boubacar Barry saved his 35-yard effort.

However, any comeback hopes were quickly dashed early in the second-half when Ivory Coast padded another two goals onto the scoreline.

Firstly, Lyon man Keita took stole the ball from Damien Chrystosome on the edge of the area before finishing coolly, and then Dindane finally hit the target with a header after being superbly set up by Drogba.

The Elephants then had the luxury of being able to take off Drogba off so that he didn't suffer the same fate as Toure, as they strolled to victory.

To their credit, Benin kept plugging away, and Omotoyossi headed home a deserved consolation just before the end, after an excellent cross from Sessegnon.
