FA Cup - Fifth round draw: Villa visit Merseyside

Eurosport - Mon, 26 Jan 09:13:00 2009

The winner of Liverpool and Everton's FA Cup fourth-round replay could be rewarded with a fifth-round tie against Aston Villa.

2008-2009 Aston Villa Brad Friedel - 0

If the Villans see off Doncaster Rovers in their replay at Villa Park, they will travel to Merseyside for the biggest match of the last 16.

Manchester United will visit the East Midlands to play the winner of the tie between Derby County and Nottingham Forest.

United recently lost a Carling Cup semi-final first leg at Derby, while a game against Forest will evoke memories of the 1-0 win at the City Ground in 1990 that - according to legend - saved Alex Ferguson from the sack.

Watford manager Brendan Rodgers will take on Chelsea - where Rodgers worked under Jose Mourinho - at Vicarage Road.

If Arsenal see off Cardiff in their replay at the Emirates, they will take on the winners of West Brom versus Burnley.

Swansea City, who beat holders Portsmouth on Saturday, take on Fulham who survived a scare against non-league Kettering in the fourth round.

Sheffield United play host to Hull City, West Ham United take on Middlesbrough and the winners of Sunderland against Blackburn will have a home tie against Coventry City.

FA Cup fifth round draw

Sheffield United v Hull City

Watford v Chelsea

West Ham United v Middlesbrough

Sunderland or Blackburn Rovers v Coventry City

Derby County or Nottingham Forest v Manchester United

Swansea City v Fulham

Liverpool or Everton v Doncaster Rovers or Aston Villa

Cardiff City or Arsenal v West Bromwich Albion or Burnley

Matches to be played on February 14/15.

  3. The ties not over yet but there saying what there saying in the article because Liverpool v Villa would be a huge game, and to be honest Villa are favourites to kick Donaster at Villa park, it will be no suprise to me if round 5 is Liverpool V Villa

  4. The headline is very offensive to Doncaster Rovers (and fans). I am not Doncaster Rovers fan, let's hope it will beat Villa .. Villa is just an average team, their luck will run out ....

i think you will see that the headline reads "FA Cup - Fifth round draw: Villa visit Merseyside" where is the "could" and "if" in that? yes it is in the body of the text but not in the headline...the headline is what brings the article to peoples attention, the headline assumes that villa are already through. I hope that doncaster win, you cant just assume that villa will win just because they are in a better division with a better league position. Bring on the villa round 2 ....who are ya!

Well I hope so. I am a avid Villa fan and really hope we get some silverware this season. but in all honesty I doubt it. I would still not count Doncaster out the running yet. The FA cup is the most unpredictable cup in the world and that's what makes it the best.

  11. Well why wasnt the headline saying Doncaster or Villa to visit Merseyside, easy to have put that, but they didn't, the spirit of the FA Cup is still alive for Doncaster, lets hope they do win, and keep the lower league interest in the Cup

Read properly or don't comment at all! The article uses the words "could" and "if". Both respectful and with foresight.

  13. I see some upsets here, possible Cloughie revenge? Cardiff, Swansea, Watford and Sheffield Utd????
Could this be the first time I think ever that an FA Cup final could involve two teams outside the top fiight????

Definately worth having the lower league teams in by the way, thats what the FA Cup is all about.

  14. You Scousers better prey for Doncaster to win of there will be no scouse team in round 6

  15. Very disrespectful of you to think Doncaster Rovers will beaten, reporting that Villa will visit Merseyside, i am an Everton fan, so Villa playing Liverpool in the next round are they, report properly, or don't report it at all

  19. @ NNNIIICCCKKKKK (whatever your spazmodic misspelt name is!)

Liverpool and Arsenal will definately progress. I think it is YOU who needs the reality check as both these teams have beaten man united this year already. Just coz man u battered chelski, united supporters seem to think they are guaranteed the quadrupal. United will NOT win the treble or quadrupal - if all 4 cups were decided on one game - chelski and man u would have had an EPIC FAIL due to BOTH losing to Liverpool AND Arsenal. Wake up and smell the @#$% you are standing in.

all u people who think that arsenal or liverpool will win need a serious reality check
first liverpool just tied an everton side that had like half of their usual starters and liverpool had everyone
second arsenal just cant seem to get it together they are lacking quality
MAN UTD for the treble this year!!!!!!!!!!!
