Championship - Burnley cancel Eckersley's contract
Burnley have cancelled the contract of defender Richard Eckersley by mutual consent.
The former Manchester United full-back has endured an unhappy time at Turf Moor since joining the club in 2009 and still had 18 months remaining on his current deal.
Eckersley failed to make a single league appearance, with his four starts all coming in cup competitions.
The 22-year-old spent time on loan at Plymouth, Bradford and Bury with his path to the first team blocked before enjoying a spell with Major League Soccer side Toronto FC, where it is thought his future may now lie.
