League Cup - Mancini bemused by penalty call
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini left Anfield raging at more perceived refereeing injustices.
First Mancini felt Dowd should have awarded a penalty for Charlie Adam's tackle on Dzeko when the game was still goalless. Then, after de Jong's curling effort had put City in front, Dowd did award a spot-kick for handball against Micah Richards when Daniel Agger's shot struck the visitors' skipper on the leg, then shot up onto his arm.
"It hit his leg before his arm," said Mancini, before addressing referee Phil Dowd's clear indication that Richards had made the initial block with his arms raised.
"He could cut his arm off. It is my opinion. I didn't think it was a penalty."
Meanwhile Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish claimed he would happily sign any more Manchester City outcasts after a stunning display from Craig Bellamy in Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final success.
Bellamy, who left City for a second spell Anfield last summer, struck the decisive goal as Liverpool saw off the Barclays Premier League leaders over two legs to book a date with Cardiff at Wembley.
The Wales striker capped a tireless performance when he fired home in the 74th minute to secure a 2-2 draw and a 3-2 aggregate victory at Anfield, and Dalglish said: "He works hard but the quality of the boy as well - the second goal was fantastic, how he took it. We are delighted for Craig and we are delighted with Craig."
He added: "If City have got any more like him that they want rid of, we are only down the East Lancs Road.
"We have spoken about him many times in the past and waxed lyrical about him. He was fantastic [on Wednesday] but every single one of them was."
The Reds twice trailed on the night after a stunning strike from Nigel de Jong and a tap-in from Edin Dzeko came either side of a Steven Gerrard penalty. But Liverpool were ultimately rewarded for a committed and high-tempo performance and Dalglish dedicated the success to everyone connected with the Merseyside club.

Bob Paisley, 19 trophies in 9 years. Even Sir Alkie Fergie can't equal that.
Only Mancini complains and gets hung up on penaltys and ref decisions after the game
Surely handball is handball. Whether the ball hits the players leg first is incidental
I have to say that having seen the incident in slow motion, I have a lot of sympathy with Mancini. The ball clearly struck the defender on the leg and sprang up and hit his arm. It was a totally innocent incident and IMHO the ref got it badly wrong. If ever I have seen a case for an action replay being available to refs, this was it.
oh shut it
Get f,ucked Mancini , you're becoming a whinging pain in the hole like that drunk old age pensioner ferguson!
Tha lads ave bin taken tha michael oot of Evra en trainen taday, becos of hes heit.
He came ovar ta me yellin "Boss, i am not happy - I AM NOT HAPPY!"
so ai sed "If yer no happy, then tell me, which one of tha dwarfs are yoos?"
Blady hell, dud he go mad.
The penalty was a difficult one to call but the ref gave it as he saw it, LFC have had at least 4 clear penalties not given in their favour, last night they got one its called swings and roundabouts. I am quite sure that if it happens for City, Utd, Chelsea etc they won't complain.
I love supporting Liverpool. The Scum supporters sing about us every week. We ignore them unless we are playing them. Then there is Man City with their many deluded fans. Istina Boli is typical comments 144 & 145. City will win nothing thi sseason, Mancini will get sacked and then enter Mourinio then we will be up against it. We at LFC are reformimg soon to have Suarez back and we will build and I believe challenge in 2012-13 for the title.
But as the song goes Manchetser is full of sh't , that is both sides.
captain blue why are you using that head stamping thug as your avitar, very immature me thinks, typical city supporter.
@ Istina ...Fairness and justice???? Yet you are biassed against Man United... why is that?? Maybe because you are naive enough to believe all the conspiracy theories regarding Referees and the FA??? Surely you cannot really be so inanely stupid??
i dont like to see any manchester team get beat by scousers, but city have no given right to win everything, just cos they;ve spent millions,so on this occation i,d like to say thanks to l;pool for beating the bitters, and shutting up there dilusional fans for a few days at least...
@ Chris Maddox
No I do not support ANY of english clubs.
I support FAIRNESS and JUSTICE
The handball was a harsh call, but the correct call. Either way, we'll still probably blow it against cardiff...
Istina I'm assuming you are just the epitome of the Bitterest Blue.... ahh didums. Poor City are so hard done to, everything goes against you, the FA and Referees all want you to lose..... GET REAL!! You just weren't good enough over the two legs...... and if you think Fergie would EVER want the Scousers to win then you really don't know what you are talking about.
I think it is time for Mancini to acknowledge that City have no divine right to win every match and to learn to give credit to whom credit is due. He is becoming more arrogant and pompus than even Mourihno was at Chelsea. He should take some football lessons and seed that the only reason why City's name is being mentioned these days along side United and Liverpool just as Cheleas's name was being mentioned two or three years ago, is because of the crazy and sensiless money they are throwing about and not because of their position in world football. As it is, it will take City nothing less than 20 years of continuous sensiless spending and winning trophies before they can be classified in the same category as United and Liverpool and anyone with the tiniest of brain will know that the Arab millions will soon dry up once the Arabs realise the fact that, money alone does not guarantee success and the records built by United and Liverpool over generations can not be bought over with crazy spending in matter of two or three years. So instead of whinging everytime your team loses to United, Liverpool or Arsenal, learn to give credit to whom it's due.
Phil Dow is EMPLOYEE of CRIMINAL organization called SCUMchester utd.
There is a LONG List of referees on SCUM utd PAYROL,¬ Leading the pack are:
- howard webb
- phill dowd
- chris¬ foy
- martin atkinson
You guys need to understand, epl¬ is ILLEGITIMATE COMPETITION. there are rules for¬ everyone but NOT for SCUM utd.
SCUM utd actually runs the¬ league, has english FA in their pocket and ordering¬ them what to do; in addition MOST referees are on ¬ SCUMchester Utd. PAYROLL or too scared to call fair¬ game - for fear of being punished for proper job and¬ not helping SCUM utd.
Phill dowd is EMPLOYEE of SCUMchester United; he was INSTRUCTED by ferguson to make sure Liverpool wins- simple as that
john c i do you know it was a red card maybe it was a yellow ? or are you thinking it should have been red?see how silly your post is in your own words it was imaginary
traffordbuccaneers..... If you haven't seen Mancini waving imaginary Red Cards when he thinks he knows better than the Ref ,then you dont wastch much footbsll chum. I was not talking about Man Citys hammering by Liverpool. I was talking about his stupid behaviour in general.
