Collison: More to come from Hammers

Thu, 26 Jan 11:38:54 2012

Jack Collison has fired a warning to the rest of the Championship by insisting there is plenty more to come from West Ham.

The Hammers hit the top of the table last weekend with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest and even though a lacklustre performance drew cristicism from some supporters, midfielder Collison insists results are all that count this season.

"It is great for us if we are at the top of the league and we have another couple of gears to find," he said.

"It's frightening and it sends out a message to the other teams to say `we're there, we are not playing too great but we are getting the results'. Then when it all comes together it is going to be great for us.

"Last season I was out injured so I know how it feels to be a fan. It is frustrating for them at times but it's frustrating for us as players.

"We don't go out and not try to put five goals in, we go and do our best. At the end of the day they have to be satisfied with where we are in the league. I know we can produce a few good performances between now and the end of the season and the ultimate goal is to get promotion."

  2. agree with comments from my fellow westham supporters_at times we have played blinding football this season...would have enjoyed a cup run....that is what i hatted the most
against aldershot/sheff wed.....yet then i think of the logic? a cup run or promotion!!
we all want promotion that is our number 1 objective this season. at the moment we hold
our destiny in our own hands.i understand some teams will just get 11 men behind the ball against us....yet our midfield is the best in the league__we just need to continue
as a team and succeed as a team...COYI

  3. I agree with your sentiments Jack, pleased we are at the top yes, but satisfied never and neither you or the rest of the squad should be either, as Papa has said three easy games to come so another 9 point haul, a few goals from open play and the strikers for a change on the score sheet, would be great, but satisfied no, not until we are back where we belong in the Premier and fighting for a Champions League slot or the title, now that would be satisfying

  4. While a 5-0 win would be nice for a change, you have to agree a 2-1 win is more exciting.

  5. In all fairness, Papadragon has been pretty much spot on all season.

We're top and tbh we've struggled to get there. West Ham need to be a lot more clinical in open play and create our own destiny. We've been quite fortunate thus far with other teams slipping up. God knows we're not a lucky club and I think we've had more than our fair share so far this season. It's time to step up a few gears and get the hell out of this tough league.

  7. Hammer's result is not pretty because the set piece is not good. With Taylor comes back from injury, I think the set piece can be improved. Compared with Taylor, Noble's corners and free kicks cannot give pressure to the opponent. This is our critical point why we dominate the game, but cannot score. Taylor is 30 now, so it's better to buy another good player to strengthen our set piece. If not, it's a very difficult path for Hammer to achieve promotion objective.

  8. There you go Jack, we're pulling for you and the rest to get us back to the Prem. Surely it hasn't been pretty but we're top of the table and I too believe this club is just getting started. Lets go on a nice run of wins. Yes Papa D, more goals would help my blood pressure. COYI

  9. Nobody's more surprised to find West Ham top of the table by three points than Sam Allardyce
Thanks mainly to Southampton and Middlesborough losing matches and Noble's penalties
Birmingham and Cardiff have had other distractions like the Europe and the Mickey Mouse cup but watch them go now as Jimmy used to say "It's a Funny Old Game"
Here we are with three relatively easy fixtures against Ipswich (21st), Millwall (20th) and Peterborough (16th)
Nine points before we have to play Southampton at home on the 14th February would take us to 62 points
So Sam - get this motley crew together and tell them to pull their fingers out and start playing like they mean it
Score some goals - as the wise man said "It's Goals that Count"

  10. Agree with Sam on this for too long we have tried to pretend we play the West ham way and look where it has got us. The championship is a meat and grind league and if thats what it takes to get back to the Premier league then you know what whatever it takes. Im glad to see lads like Tomkins and Collison have stuck with us as they are our future. Collison is going to be a force in midfield and Tomkins is a future West ham and England captain.
