McIntyre sees Dons opportunity

Dunfermline manager Jim McIntyre hopes his side can rise from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League basement on Saturday with victory at Aberdeen.

The Pars missed the chance to leapfrog fellow strugglers Hibs at the bottom when they crashed to defeat to 10-man Motherwell in their game in hand on Tuesday.

McIntyre described September's 4-0 loss at Pittodrie as their worst performance of the season but is hoping they can mark an upturn in their fortunes in the Granite City, especially with Hibs - who are one point clear - facing a trip to champions Rangers.

McIntyre, who has pleaded for funds from the club's board to add former Aberdeen midfielder Stuart Duff to his squad, said: "Having a point between the teams always gives us the opportunity to move above Hibs and that's exactly how we'll approach the next game in that we'll go there and try and get the win.

"When we last played Aberdeen at Pittodrie it was probably our lowest performance of the season. Aberdeen were excellent while we were equally as poor and they gave us a thrashing.

"It was a much closer game the last time we played. We had a great chance to go 4-1 up that day and we never took it and they came back and got a draw out of it, to their credit. They've got good players and they've added a couple of bits of real quality in Mark Reynolds and Russell Anderson."
