Moyes shoulders the blame

Everton boss David Moyes has attempted to deflect criticism from chairman Bill Kenwright by taking responsibility for the club's perceived failings.

A faction of disgruntled supporters believe Everton have stagnated under Kenwright due to a lack of investment and want him to sell his stake in the club.

Kenwright has long said he is willing to do that if he can find a suitable investor but there have been peaceful fan protests against his ownership this season.

Some fans also voiced their disquiet after last week's frustrating Barclays Premier League draw with Blackburn but Moyes believes it is up to the team to put that right.

Moyes, whose side are 14th in the table, said: "The only negativity there is is because of how the team play. We have not played well enough. It is nothing to do with the board of directors or the chairman, it is to do with me and the team.

"We have got to do better on the pitch. If the team plays better it lifts the mood and people change. We need to perform better and win more often. If we do that it will change everything. Winning football games is always the answer so I will take responsibility for that."

  1. Unfortunately Everton's lack of financial strength does mean that we cannot afford to buy the most skilful players and over the past few years we have relied upon a reasonable defence and considerable strength in midfield. This season our midfield play has been below the standard expected of our great club and when you relate the failing in midfield with the ineptitude up front you can appreciate why we are in the position we are in. Everton are like many of the 'also rans' and unless Everton improve the standard of play in midfield and acquire a striker who can score on a consistent basis then we will remain in the doldrums. The weakness in the club has been increasing over a number of years and unless a substantial investment is made I cannot see any real improvement and we will have to accept that the club will be fighting a bettle to remain in the Premiership for years to come. I believe David Moyes has done well on limited resources but the strain is now evident.

  3. I hate it when we play one up front especially when we're at home, and like martin says why he sticks with saha is probably the thoughts of every everton fan. 3 up front rob i like it we could play Gueye Vellios Drenthe with barkley fellaini rodwell in the middle and baines duffy jags coleman as the back four. I think its a bit harsh on osman that lineup but im sure they'd be some rotation. i reckon if we didnt finish too bad this season we could persuade drenthe to stay. Them 3 lads in midfield are the future of our club. Moyes needs to change his ways but he can pull us through~ IMWT ETID

  4. Hurrah...at least Moyes has the decency to admit it IS his fault. Terrible team selections and negative tactics even at home to lower sides continue to produce poor results. He persists in playing Saha for only reasons he knows, then plays others out of position. The one up front tactic just doesn`t work so why on earth does he play that way every game ?? I think Moyes has done a fantastic job at EFC turning us from relegation material into a top 6 side..but now he is turning us back into relegation material !!I know he has very limited money and a small squad , but he is NOT making the most of what he has. We have some great wide players but he hasn`t used them, the sooner Coleman is available the better as he causes all sorts of problems with his non stop running. There are some tough games coming up and Moyes has to put out a team to win those games, not one to avoid defeat. I would much rather see the team playing well and getting the wrong result instead of the shocking perfomances against Bolton, Blackburn Stoke etc at home that yielded just 1 point. Beating Fulham should be a good point to start playing a better style of football , a cup run is needed to boost the moral of the supporters and generate some much need cash. COYB

  5. Play Three upfront then ? go for it instead of being defensive all the time. Just an idea like im not on mega bucks but a proven fact you don't win games unless you score!

  6. It is not only about the players and their performances its about investment and improving the squad and also about the tactics employed in certain games this season.I was at villa where we could have won the game(Donovan and Gibson were excellent) then Blackburn at home dreadful. As much as it about the players they still need direction and support,so come on Kenwright loosen the purse strings.
